November Lavender Friend’s Coffee
Hi All
Just to let you know that John held today’s 3 hour coffee at his house and I must admit that I had a very good time. We had a very relaxed and enjoyable conversation among Nancy, Yvonne, Rachel, Jacquie, Carl, Robert, Marie, Joanna, Patti, John and myself. Holding it at someones house vs coffee shop during this unpredictable weather is a good idea. Everyone brought something to nibble on so their went our diets

PFLAG Diversity Celebration Fundraiser wrap-up
As part of the Lavender Hearts Committee’s effort to provide potential volunteer opportunities to our membership, interface with other Placer county organizations to learn about their programs and vice versa, promote a positive image of the Lavender Friends Group and, as part of the Lavender Friends “July – Dinner Out Activity”, Marie and I felt the PFLAG of Placer county fundraiser event offered a dual opportunity to meet the Lavender Hearts Committee’s mission and our dinner out activity. We believe we succeeded on both counts.
Flower Farm Inn and Nursery provided a unique setting for this event. As we entered the event room, twenty-five round tables, each cloaked with linen tablecloths reflecting all the colors of the rainbow, was an inviting presentation to the 200 guests of PFLAG’s Diversity Celebration & Fundraiser.
Linen tablecloths! Classy! And so was the evening.
Two and half tables exclusively reserved for Lavender Friends provided our twenty-one member group opportunity to revel in each other’s company, ringside seats to enjoy the evening’s entertainment and close proximity to enter tickets in specific containers for the multitude of raffle items displayed on tables surrounding the room.
Hearty appetizers and decadent desserts were offered buffet style on side tables and by traveling servers who wore some piece of clothing that reflected the rainbow colors. The evening’s entertainment included a variety of show tunes performed by the Sacramento Gay Men’s Chorus, a group that has been performing for the past twenty-five years and receiving much deserved praise by audiences and critics alike.
Raffle winnings ranged from procured food and wine gift certificates of local retailers, cart and green fees of several nearby golf courses, consultant services of a variety of professionals, gift baskets, handcrafted items made by PFLAG members and travel freebies offered by local establishments or agencies. Members of Lavender Friends made out like bandits!
SCLH Lavender Friends Group was singled out by PFLAG’s President, Lori Ennis, in the first hour, recognizing our support of their event by our presence there, and in the final hour, thanking us for our group’s cash donation of $100. PFLAG’s last fundraiser event subsidized scholarships of high school and junior college students who are members of the Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) Clubs of Placer County.
To our wonderful surprise, Marie and I learned from Jacquie Hilton that three individuals approached our group during the evening to inquire about potential membership in Lavender Friends. Speaking on behalf of the Lavender Hearts Committee, and Marie, I feel Lavender Friends members were treated to an evening out that was full, entertaining, lively, much enjoyed by those who attended and fostered a positive image and impression of our group.

June 19th – “A Night in Italy” Pot Luck
To all the Lavender Friends Guys,
We want to express our appreciation for all of your efforts to make “A NIGHT IN ITALY” an incredibly wonderful evening. The food was delicious, the outdoor venue wonderful (in spite of the heat over which you could do little other than set up the canopies which shaded us well – and we know was a lot of work), and the company could not have been more fun. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves as did everyone with whom we talked – including guests who called us the next day to express their appreciation for being included.
What a wonderful bunch of guys we have in this group!
Thank you, thank you,
Jacquie and Nancy
May 15, 2010 – Sun City Parking Lot Sale
We are happy to announce that the Lavender Friends parking lot sale at Orchid Creek was a huge success. 85% of the members, along with several non-member residents donated their “good stuff” which in turn attracted many buyers. Just about everything was sold!
The proceeds from this sale will fund our community outreach services program.
April 27, 2010 – Potluck at Kilaga
Kalaga’s kitchen was transformed into a party room with the help of our members and the dishes they contributed. April’s Pot Luck dinner was a hit as shown by all the smiles on our member’s faces at the conclusion of the evening.
April 2010 – Shall We Bowl?
“Shall We Bowl” is the name of our newest activity.
Every other Thursday we get together for three rounds of bowling.
Some of us haven’t bowled for years and others have been active bowlers since our teens.
We’re having great fun cheering each others successes.
March 2010 – We are now Lavender Friends “Club”
The first meeting of our new Executive Board was on March 20th. Phil, our new president, did a great job in his new leadership role.
The Sun City Lincoln Hills Chartered Clubs and Community Organization Committee has just revised their Guidelines Handbook which refers to all organizations as “Clubs”. but allows Shared Interest Groups to refer to themselves as “Clubs” or “Groups”. Our executive Board voted to now refer to ourselves as Lavender Friends Club.
Our club’s social activities are in full swing! Several of our members got together for dinners, breakfasts, and lunches in downtown Lincoln restaurants as well as Sun City’s Meridians restaurant. Our newest activities are a Monday-at-the-movies group and a bowling group that meets twice a month.
And, remember, come visit us at the Sun City Lincoln Hills parking lot sale on May 15th at Orchard Creek. Just look for the “rainbow flag”!
February 2010 – Semi-Annual Business Meeting
On January 31, 2010 we had our semi-annual business meeting followed by a wonderful dinner at Meridians. Jacquie’s 2009 term as Steering Committee Chair has ended and Phil is beginning his term as Executive Chair for 2010. Jacquie was presented with a certificate recognizing her service and her help in bringing the Lavender Friends Group to Shared Interest Status (inclusion of non-gay residents) in 2009. Our Steering Committee approved our group participating in the May 15th parking lot sale at Orchard Creek. This will be a fund-raiser for our Lavender Hearts service group and members are asked to go through their closets and collect “good stuff” to contribute to this worthy endeavor.
